FAQ's Bespoke cut to size hearths

How long do bespoke size hearths take to make and deliver?

Typically, we aim to have your bespoke hearth made and delivered within 7-10 working days. This timeframe may vary depending on the complexity of the design and current production schedules, but we will keep you updated on the progress of your order.

Do I need to go with a protective sealant?

We strongly recommend sealing your hearth to protect it from stains and wear over time. You can choose to apply the sealant yourself, or we can take care of it for you before it arrives—it's entirely up to you.

What sealant is the best for my material choice?

The best sealant for your hearth largely depends on the color of the stone and the finish you desire.

  • Darkening (Blacken) Sealant: Ideal for those who want to achieve a deep, rich black look. It works best on black/blue slate and black limestone, enhancing the stone's natural depth.
  • Matt Finish: The most popular choice for many stone types. It enhances the natural beauty of the stone while providing a subtle varnished finish that doesn’t shine, giving the hearth a timeless, elegant appearance.
  • Invisible / Clear Sealant: Best suited for honed materials or riven grey sandstone. This option preserves the stone’s natural look, leaving it unaltered and maintaining its raw, untreated appearance.

What is a Box and Lip?

A box and lip is an optional feature for your hearth that raises the surface of the hearth above its actual thickness, providing both a functional and aesthetic benefit.

  • The Box: This is a raised section around the edges of the hearth, which creates a slightly elevated lip. It’s essentially a frame that adds height to the hearth, making it stand out more and ensuring it sits higher than the floor.
  • The Lip: The lip is the overhanging edge that extends slightly beyond the box, typically around the perimeter of the hearth. It can provide a more finished look and create a cleaner, more defined boundary between the hearth and the surrounding floor.

Will the edges be polished?

No, the edges are clean-cut and machine-sawn for a smooth finish, but they are not polished.

Are the edges the same colour as the surface of my hearth?

In most cases, the edges will be a similar colour to the surface of your hearth. However, because they are cut during the manufacturing process, the edges may appear slightly lighter or darker depending on the stone and the finish. If you're aiming for a perfect match, this can be achieved by sealing the stone

Do the beams come with fixings?

No, the beams do not come with fixings. However, they do have brackets inserted into the back, making installation easier. You simply need to use masonry drill bits to drill into the wall and then hang the beam on the brackets.

Do you need a drawing to produce my hearth?

A drawing is not required to complete the checkout process, but we will need one at some point to ensure we have all the details correct. If you have a sketch or drawing, it will help us better understand your vision and make sure everything is as you want it. If you don’t have one, no problem! We can finalize the details after your order is placed.
