Indian Sandstone Cobbles & Setts

Indian sandstone cobble setts are great for adding detail to driveways, paths, and borders. They're hand-cut from natural stone, so each one has its own character. We stock them in 100mm x 100mm and 200mm x 100mm sizes, and they pair well with matching sandstone paving if you want everything to tie together.

FAQ

Can cobble setts be used on driveways?

Yes. Both natural stone and porcelain cobble setts are hard-wearing enough for driveways and can handle regular vehicle traffic when laid on a proper sub-base with the right jointing. Granite cobble setts are particularly popular for driveways because of their strength.

Natural stone or porcelain - which should I go for?

Natural stone (sandstone, limestone, granite) has more texture and colour variation, which suits traditional or rustic projects. Porcelain setts are more uniform in colour, very low-maintenance, stain-resistant and frost-proof - so they tend to work well in modern settings or areas that see a lot of use.

How many cobble setts will I need?

It depends on the size of sett and the area you're covering. As a rough guide, you'll need around 100 of the 100x100mm setts per square metre, or about 50 of the 200x100mm setts per square metre. We'd always suggest ordering an extra 10–15% to allow for cuts and waste.

How do I lay cobbles or setts?

In short: prepare a compacted hardcore base, lay a mortar bed, place each cobble and tap it level with a rubber mallet, then fill the joints with a jointing compound or sand-cement mix. For the full walkthrough, have a look at our how to lay cobbles step-by-step guide.

Do I need to seal cobble setts or edging planks?

Porcelain doesn't need sealing. Natural stone can be sealed with an external stone sealer to bring out the colour and help protect against staining, but it isn't essential - it's more of a preference.
