Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone Paving – Mixed Size – Superior Quality Natural Stone
Our Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone is our best-selling sandstone, chosen by customers for its outstanding quality, durability, and low-maintenance appeal. Ideal for anyone seeking a classic, refined look with minimal upkeep, Kandla Grey is sourced from one of India’s top quarries, renowned for producing this sandstone with remarkable consistency. Although we invest a little more to bring you this premium stone, its subtle riven texture, elegant grey tones, and long-lasting appeal make it an excellent choice for any outdoor project.
We offer two thickness options for Kandla Grey to suit a variety of project needs: the Premium 22mm thickness for enhanced durability and a budget-friendly 18mm option that provides the same visual appeal at a lower cost.

Overview
Sandstone is a natural stone formed from "sand" grains molded together over millions of years under the earth's surface, resulting in a strong and durable stone that is perfect for a wide variety of outdoor applications.
Appearance:
A blend of light-to-mid grey tones. Square/rectangular pavers with a textured surface and edges.
Stone Type:
Indian Sandstone (Sedimentary, quarried stone)
Governing Standards:
Supplied and packed in accordance with ISO 9001 quality assurance systems.
Natural Characteristics:
May include veining, tonal variation, and occasional fossil markings — these features are natural and enhance the aesthetic.
Stone Tolerances:
Thickness ±5mm, minor surface irregularities expected due to hand-cut and riven nature.

Maintaining your Kandla Grey paving is simple. Regular sweeping prevents dirt build-up, while occasional deep cleaning can be done with hot soapy water and a stiff brush.
If you're in a shaded garden or damp area, an algae treatment (such as Lithofin Algex) may be used seasonally to keep your slabs looking fresh. For tougher cleaning, a wide-spray pressure washer works well—just avoid spraying directly into joints to preserve their integrity.
Sealing is optional, but helps maintain colour and reduces staining risk. Many customers prefer the natural weathered look over time.
Estimated Carbon Footprint: 20.39 kg per m²
This figure includes carbon from raw material extraction all the way to end-of-life disposal or recycling. We aim to keep our carbon levels transparent and competitive.
- Stage 1 – Raw Materials: Extraction and quarrying of natural sandstone
- Stage 2 – Manufacture: Cutting, calibrating, hand-finishing, and packing
- Stage 3 – Transport: Overseas freight, UK haulage, and last-mile delivery
- Stage 4 – In-Use: Installation and periodic maintenance
- Stage 5 – End of Life: Reuse, recycling, or responsible disposal
By choosing natural stone over manufactured materials, you're investing in a low-maintenance product with a long lifespan and significantly reduced environmental impact.
Do Kandla Grey Slabs Have Consistent Thickness?
Typically, these slabs are calibrated to a thickness of 22mm or 18mm dependant on the thickness selection you make. However, due to the natural properties of Sandstone, there can be a tolerance of up to +/- 3mm
What Slab Sizes can I Expect To Find In The Mixed Packs?
The mixed-size pack for this Sandstone includes the following slab dimensions:
- 90cm x 60cm
- 60cm x 60cm
- 60cm x 29cm
- 29cm x 29cm
The two smaller sizes (60cm x 29cm and 29cm x 29cm) are cut to 29cm to allow for an approximate 10mm joint.
Note: As this is a natural product, there may be slight size tolerances especially with the edges being Hand Dressed. It's important to account for these variations when planning your project layout, as variations in size will mean that joint widths are almost certain to vary throughout the patio.
This is perfectly normal for this type of material and adds to its natural charm. If you require millimeter accuracy, porcelain tiles may be a better option.
What Is The Edge Detail On These Sandstone Pavers?
The edge detail is hand-dressed, meaning each edge is carefully chipped by hand to create a natural, textured look. This gives the paving a rustic, timeless appearance, perfect for traditional or natural designs.
What Makes Primethorpe Kandla Grey Better Than Others?
Primethorpe Kandla Grey stands out because of the high-quality quarry we source it from. The colour tones and surface finish are among the best available, offering a consistent and attractive grey with subtle variations that enhance its natural beauty. While sourcing from this quarry costs us more, the superior quality and finish are absolutely worth the extra investment, ensuring long-lasting durability and a premium look for your project.
Will wet stone look different in colour?
Yes, natural stone often appears darker when wet because water enhances its natural colour and pattern. This effect is temporary and returns to normal as the stone dries.
How Much Colour Variation Will There Be?
In Kandla Grey, there is minimal colour variation. While the shades of grey may vary slightly, the overall colour will remain consistent within the grey spectrum. You can expect a subtle variation in tones, but it will always be within the grey range.
