Material Info

Origin of Blue Limestone from India

Blue Limestone, also known as Kota Blue Limestone, is primarily quarried in the northern regions of India, particularly in the state of Rajasthan, which is renowned for its abundant reserves of high-quality natural stones. This region's unique geological conditions, shaped over millions of years, have contributed to the formation of this durable and visually appealing limestone.

Blue Limestone is characterized by its consistent blue-grey tones, smooth texture, and occasional fossilized patterns that reflect its natural origin. Its understated elegance makes it a popular choice for both traditional and contemporary outdoor and indoor spaces, including patios, pathways, flooring, and wall cladding.

The extraction and processing of Blue Limestone are essential to the local economy, providing significant employment opportunities and supporting regional communities. Its robustness, slip-resistant properties, and timeless aesthetic have made it a favored material in landscaping and architectural projects around the world.

By choosing Blue Limestone from India, you’re investing in a natural material that combines exceptional performance with the rich heritage of Indian craftsmanship.

FAQs - Blue Limestone Paving

Do Blue Limestone Slabs Have Consistent Thickness?

Typically, these slabs are calibrated to a thickness of 22mm. However, due to the natural properties of Limestone, there can be a tolerance of up to +/- 3mm

What Slab Sizes can I Expect To Find In The Mixed Packs?

The mixed-size pack for this Limestone includes the following slab dimensions:

  • 90cm x 60cm
  • 60cm x 60cm
  • 60cm x 29cm
  • 29cm x 29cm

The two smaller sizes (60cm x 29cm and 29cm x 29cm) are cut to 29cm to allow for an approximate 10mm joint.

Note: As this is a natural product, there may be slight size tolerances with the edges being machine sawn. It's important to account for these variations when planning your project layout, as variations in size will mean that joint widths are almost certain to vary throughout the patio.

This is perfectly normal for this type of material and adds to its natural charm. If you require millimetre accuracy, porcelain tiles may be a better option.

What Is the Edge Detail on These Limestone Pavers?

The edge detail on these limestone pavers is machine sawn, providing a clean, precise finish for a sleek and uniform look. However, it’s important to note that the sawn edge can sometimes result in minor chips being visible, especially when the stones are still in the original packaging. These chips are typically hidden once the pavers are laid and grouted, but they are there due to the nature of the product. The stones are packed side by side in a crate, which means they can rub together during transit. While wrapping each slab individually would prevent this, it wouldn’t be economically viable.

If these chips may concern you then possible it might be worth upgrading to a Porcelain alternative instead.

Will wet stone look different in colour?

Yes, natural stone often appears darker when wet because water enhances its natural colour and pattern. This effect is temporary and returns to normal as the stone dries.

How to Make This Stone Stay a Deep Colour?

To maintain a deep colour, we recommend sealing the stone with a high-quality stone sealant designed for darker stones. This will help prevent fading caused by UV exposure and weathering. Regular cleaning with a pH-neutral cleaner will also keep the surface looking vibrant. Avoid harsh chemicals or acidic cleaners, as they can cause discoloration over time.

Can You Use Acid to Clean This Product?

No, we do not recommend using acid to clean this product. Acidic cleaners can damage the stone, causing discoloration and surface degradation. Instead, use a pH-neutral cleaner to maintain the stone’s appearance and longevity.

What Natural Markings Can You Find in Blue Limestone?

Blue limestone typically features white quartz markings, which can appear as small flecks or sometimes in the form of veins running through the stone. These natural markings are part of the stone’s unique character and add to its overall beauty and individuality.
