Our Rustic Copper Slate is a natural multicolour slate featuring striking variations of warm copper, bronze, grey, and black tones. Each piece is completely unique, creating a rustic, characterful appearance once installed. As this is a natural stone, colour tones vary from batch to batch depending on the quarry source at the time of cutting. Natural Characteristics

This is a riven slate, meaning it is split along its natural layers, which gives it its distinctive textured surface. These layers can make the stone slightly flaky in places — particularly during the first winter after installation, when frost and moisture naturally loosen any weak layers. This process is completely normal and helps the surface stabilise into a durable, long-lasting finish.

To accelerate this natural weathering, a gentle pressure wash after installation and before jointing can help remove any loose surface material. This initial flaking, or delamination, is an inherent feature of natural slate and not a fault or defect.

Edges & Chipping

Due to the natural make-up of slate and the way it is cut to size, minor chipping along edges and corners is normal. These small imperfections are part of the authentic look of riven slate paving and blend seamlessly once installed.

Thickness & Handling

Rustic Copper Slate is supplied as a 22mm calibrated product, but because of its layered structure, a tolerance of ±5mm in thickness should be expected. Handle with care during installation, as slate can be fragile before being laid. Once fixed on a solid mortar bed, it becomes stable and highly durable.
