FAQs

What does Cathedral Grey porcelain look like?

Cathedral Grey is a versatile mid-toned porcelain with soft to mid-grey colouring and a subtle stone-effect texture across the surface, designed to mimic the natural variation of weathered stone while keeping the consistency you get from vitrified porcelain. The grey sits comfortably between the lighter Cathedral Beige and the deeper Cathedral Anthracite, making it one of the most adaptable porcelain colours for matching with red brick, render, timber fencing or stone walls. Unlike natural stone, the colour stays consistent slab to slab.

What's the difference between porcelain and natural stone paving?

Porcelain is a manufactured product made from compressed clays fired at very high temperatures, which makes it dense, non-porous and extremely hard-wearing. Natural stone (sandstone, limestone) is quarried, so each slab is unique in colour and pattern. The practical differences: porcelain doesn't need sealing, resists stains and frost without effort, and has a consistent finish. Natural stone has more character and variation but needs sealing and more upkeep to look its best.

Is Cathedral Grey porcelain slippery when wet?

The range carries an R11 anti-slip rating, which is the standard recommended for external residential use including patios, pathways and pool surrounds. R11 means the surface offers good grip in wet conditions, noticeably more than smooth or polished tiles. It's a textured surface designed for outdoor use, not a polished indoor finish.

Does porcelain paving need sealing?

No. This is one of the main practical advantages of porcelain over natural stone. Porcelain is vitrified and non-porous, so liquids sit on the surface rather than soaking in. You don't need to seal it after installation and you don't need to re-seal it every few years like sandstone or limestone. Jointing compound still needs to be applied properly, but the slabs themselves require no sealing.

How do I maintain and clean Porcelain Paving?

Porcelain is one of the easiest paving materials to look after. It doesn't need sealing and won't stain easily, so a regular sweep and an occasional wash with soapy water is usually enough to keep it looking good. For tougher marks, a pressure washer on a low setting works well.
