FAQs

What colour is Raj Green Indian sandstone?

Raj Green isn't a single solid colour. It's a natural blend of soft greens, warm browns, beiges and grey tones, with subtle veining and occasional rust-coloured marks running through the stone. The green is more muted than dramatic, closer to a sage or olive than a vivid green, and the warm earthy tones often come forward more in dry weather. When wet, the colours deepen and the green becomes more pronounced.

Is Raj Green sandstone suitable for UK weather?

Yes. Indian sandstone is dense and frost-resistant, and handles British winters well when laid correctly on a full mortar bed. The colour will look noticeably different wet versus dry, which is normal for all natural stone and part of the character of the range. Sealing after installation is recommended to keep cleaning easier and protect against staining, though it isn't essential for the stone's durability.

Does Raj Green sandstone need sealing?

Sealing is optional but worth doing. Indian sandstone is porous by nature, so a sealer helps repel oil, food spills, leaf tannins and general garden dirt, and makes routine cleaning much less work. Wait until the stone is fully dry after installation (usually 4 to 6 weeks, longer in damp weather) before applying a breathable sealer made for sandstone.

How do I clean Raj Green sandstone?

For day-to-day upkeep, sweep loose debris and wash down with warm water and a stiff brush. For heavier cleans, use a pH-neutral patio cleaner rather than bleach or acid-based products, which can damage the stone and pull the colour out. Jet washing is fine on a low to medium setting, held at an angle and around 30cm from the surface so you don't blow out the jointing.
