Fossil Mint Sandstone - Walling Stone

    (42)

Our sandstone walling stone is quarried natural stone, cut and tumbled so each piece has softened edges and its own colour and texture. That's the main difference between this and the concrete walling blocks you'll find at a builders' merchant: nothing here is moulded or pigmented, so a finished wall has variation running through it instead of the same face repeating every few blocks.

We stock three colours. Kandla Grey has subtle grey and blue tones that suit modern and traditional gardens equally well. Raj Green is a rich blend of green, brown and grey with subtle gold and orange hues, and it's the closest thing we sell to traditional Yorkstone. Fossil Mint is the lightest of the three, with soft cream and beige tones, occasional pink and brown variation, and gentle shell or fern-like fossil markings across the face.

FAQs

What is sandstone walling stone?

Sandstone walling stone is natural stone quarried and cut into smaller blocks for building walls rather than laying flat. Ours is tumbled, so the edges are softened and it looks weathered from the day it goes up rather than sharp and new. Because it's real stone, the colour and texture vary from piece to piece, which is what gives a finished wall its character.

Do I need coping stones on top of the wall?

You don't have to have them, but they're worth it. Coping stones cap the wall, throw rainwater clear of the face and stop water sitting in the top course, which is where frost damage tends to start. They also finish the wall off visually. Our sandstone coping comes in matching colours, and there's a step by step fitting guide on the blog.
