Brazilian Honed Black Slate Hearths
Our Brazilian honed black slate hearths are cut to order from premium-grade natural slate, offering a refined, contemporary look without losing the authenticity of real stone. Each hearth is accurately cut to your exact dimensions using high-precision CAD-guided machinery, ensuring a neat fit and straightforward installation in your home.
Unlike riven slate, which has a more rugged split surface, these hearths feature a honed, smooth finish with a soft low-sheen appearance. The surface feels flatter and visually cleaner, while still showing subtle natural character.
Heat-resistant and easy to maintain, honed Brazilian black slate is an excellent choice for wood-burning stoves, open fires and fireplace hearths where a more minimal, sleek and modern look is the key.
For the most accurate overview of its performance and natural characteristics, please refer to the Specification tab where all key product details are listed in full.

| Natural Characteristics | |
| General Nature | Brazilian black slate is a natural metamorphic stone originally formed in layers. For honed hearths, the surface is mechanically ground to create a flatter, smoother finish. Honing reduces relief but does not remove the natural tonal and mineral movement. |
| Colour Profile | Slate labelled “black” is actually a blue-black shade rather than a pure deep black. Graphite, charcoal and soft tonal variations are common. When sealed, the colour deepens to a richer uniform tone. |
| Mineral Movement | Natural mineral distribution may produce cloudy areas, soft streaks, lighter/darker patches or subtle veining. These features are inherent to the stone and ensure every piece is unique. |
| Honed Surface Features | The honing process may result in faint tooling lines, micro-pits, small filled areas or slight sheen differences. These characteristics are normal and typical of honed natural stone. |
| Pyrite / Fools Gold | Occasional tiny metallic gold or bronze pyrite flecks may appear naturally within the stone or on cut edges. These are natural inclusions and not defects. |
| Production Enhancements | Enhancements may include epoxy fillers, localised smoothing, edge refinement or colour-enhancing treatments. These are standard practices for honed natural stone. |
| Application & Packaging | |
| Suitable For | Fire hearths, stove bases, inglenooks, chamber floors. |
| Application | Internal use only. |
| Sealing | Strongly recommended to deepen colour and reduce marking. |
| Installation Notes | Install on a stable, level substrate. Keep away from direct flame. |
| Packaging | Supplied on wooden pallets/crates with protective layers. |
| Availability | Cut-to-size: 30 mm. |
FAST UK DELIVERY — PRICED FAIRLY AND TRANSPARENTLY
We believe delivery should be clear, honest, and consistent. That’s why we don’t advertise “free delivery” while quietly building the cost into product prices or adding unexpected surcharges later in the checkout.
Instead, we charge delivery separately and transparently, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for, and so customers who order smaller quantities aren’t unfairly subsidising larger deliveries.
We deliver across the UK, including the Scottish Highlands & Isles, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.
WHY WE DON’T OFFER “FREE DELIVERY”
There’s no such thing as truly free delivery — the cost has to be covered somewhere. Some retailers do this by:
- Increasing product prices to absorb delivery costs, or
- Adding extra charges at checkout (often based on delivery size/weight or certain postcodes)
Our approach is simple:
- Product prices stay product prices.
- Delivery is shown clearly and charged based on what it actually costs to send your order safely and on time.
DELIVERY CALCULATIONS
Delivery is calculated based on factors such as:
- Order size and weight
- The type of goods being shipped
- Delivery method (parcel, courier, pallet)
- Delivery location within the UK
You’ll always see the delivery cost clearly before you pay — simply enter your postcode at checkout and your delivery options will appear.
DISPATCH & DELIVERY TIMES
We aim to dispatch orders as quickly as possible, usually within 1–2 working days (subject to stock and order volume).
Delivery times vary depending on your location and the delivery method selected.
