| Natural Characteristics of Limestone | |
| General Nature of the Stone | Kota Black Limestone is a natural stone formed over millions of years. Natural variations and features are part of its geological make up and cannot be avoided or deemed as faults. These include tonal changes, mineral markings and texture differences, all of which give the hearth its unique and authentic character. |
| Pyrite / Fools Gold | Pyrite is a natural iron sulphide mineral that can appear as small metallic gold or bronze coloured flecks in the stone. It occurs naturally within black limestone. We carefully select and cut material to reduce visible pyrite, but it is not always possible to avoid completely. In some cases pyrite may be hidden inside the stone and only becomes visible once the slab is cut to size, often as small spots on the edges. This cannot be detected before cutting and is not considered a defect. |
| Fine Quartz Lines | Fine quartz lines are narrow white mineral lines that form when silica rich minerals fill small natural fractures in the stone. They may appear as thin pale lines or streaks across the surface. We always aim to minimise prominent quartz lines, but some are unavoidable. They are sound, stable and part of the natural structure of the limestone. |
| Surface Rings | Surface rings are subtle circular or halo like markings created by gas bubbles during the hardening of the stone as it formed. These rings can sometimes be seen on the surface as circles/rings. These do not affect performance or strength. |
| White Mineral Deposits | White mineral deposits are lighter patches or markings caused by natural concentrations of calcium or other minerals within the stone. They may appear as soft white spots, veins or cloudy areas. These deposits are natural and may be present in some pieces. |
| Production Enhancements | Where necessary we may use epoxy stone filler, darkening grout pens or localised sanding and smoothing to refine the appearance of the hearth surface and edges. These steps are part of our normal production process and are used to enhance the overall look of the product. They are not considered faults or signs of a lower grade material. |
| Hand-Dressed Edges | Hand-dressed edges are shaped in the quarry before the slabs are shipped to us. This process is carried out using traditional hammer-and-chisel methods to create a more rustic, natural appearance. Because this is a hand-finished technique rather than a precision machine process, natural variation should be expected. The finished edge may appear flatter in some areas and more pitched or angled in others. Some sections may be slightly rougher or more irregular, and occasional small chips or missing fragments can occur where the stone naturally fractures during dressing. These variations are completely normal for genuine hand-dressed stone and are not considered faults. We can only offer hand-dressed edges on three sides in a selection of fixed widths, typically 150cm, 120cm and 90cm. If you request a custom width outside these standard sizes, we will contact you to discuss options. In most cases we can offer either the front edge dressed only or give you the opportunity to amend your required size or choose an alternative edge type. |

FAST UK DELIVERY — PRICED FAIRLY AND TRANSPARENTLY
We believe delivery should be clear, honest, and consistent. That’s why we don’t advertise “free delivery” while quietly building the cost into product prices or adding unexpected surcharges later in the checkout.
Instead, we charge delivery separately and transparently, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for, and so customers who order smaller quantities aren’t unfairly subsidising larger deliveries.
We deliver across the UK, including the Scottish Highlands & Isles, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man.
WHY WE DON’T OFFER “FREE DELIVERY”
There’s no such thing as truly free delivery — the cost has to be covered somewhere. Some retailers do this by:
- Increasing product prices to absorb delivery costs, or
- Adding extra charges at checkout (often based on delivery size/weight or certain postcodes)
Our approach is simple:
- Product prices stay product prices.
- Delivery is shown clearly and charged based on what it actually costs to send your order safely and on time.
DELIVERY CALCULATIONS
Delivery is calculated based on factors such as:
- Order size and weight
- The type of goods being shipped
- Delivery method (parcel, courier, pallet)
- Delivery location within the UK
You’ll always see the delivery cost clearly before you pay — simply enter your postcode at checkout and your delivery options will appear.
DISPATCH & DELIVERY TIMES
We aim to dispatch orders as quickly as possible, usually within 1–2 working days (subject to stock and order volume).
Delivery times vary depending on your location and the delivery method selected.
If your order is urgent, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help.
COLLECTION FROM OUR PETERBOROUGH DEPOT (PRIMETHORPE PAVING)
Collection is available from our Peterborough depot at Primethorpe Paving, Bungalow Business Park, PE6 7PP.
Please select the collection option at checkout (where available) or contact us to arrange a suitable time.
TRACKING & DELIVERY UPDATES
Where available, we’ll provide tracking details once your order has been dispatched.
ACCESS & DELIVERY RESTRICTIONS
To ensure a smooth delivery, please check:
- Access for large vehicles (if your order ships by pallet)
- That someone is available to receive the delivery
- Any site restrictions (narrow lanes, height limits, timed access, etc.)
If you’re unsure about anything, contact us before ordering, we’re happy to advise.
