Our indian sandstone steps are made to handle regular footfall while giving your garden or patio a stunning finish. The stone’s natural variation make it a popular pick for outdoor steps, whether you're linking different levels, creating a tidy entrance or finishing a raised seating area. You can choose between smooth sandstone bullnose steps for a more refined look or dressed edge steps for a more traditional, hand-worked style. Easy to care for and well-suited to the British climate, sandstone steps remain a trusted option for landscapers, builders and homeowners wanting strong, good-quality stone that settles naturally into any outdoor space.

FAQ

What sizes do your indian sandstone steps come in?

Sandstone bullnose steps are available in 900mm and 1200mm widths, in depths of 300mm or 450mm, and are 30mm thick. Rustic dressed steps come in 600mm, 900mm, and 1200mm widths, in depths of 250mm or 300mm, and are either 50mm or 80–100mm thick. Check the individual listing for full-size options.

What's the difference between bullnose and rustic dressed sandstone steps?

Bullnose steps have a smooth, rounded front edge and are 30mm thick - a clean, contemporary finish that works well with modern paving layouts. Rustic dressed steps are thicker with a hand-cut face, giving a chunkier, more traditional look that suits cottage and country-style gardens.

Do you offer honed sandstone steps?

No. A honed finish is too smooth for outdoor use and becomes dangerously slippery when wet.

Do sandstone steps need sealing?

Yes, we'd recommend it. Sandstone arrives unsealed, and applying a quality outdoor stone sealer before use helps protect against staining, enhances the natural colour, and makes ongoing maintenance easier.

Are sandstone steps slip resistant?

Yes. Sandstone steps have a naturally riven or hand-cut surface that provides good grip underfoot. Keep them clear of moss and algae with periodic cleaning and make sure the area drains well.

Do the steps have a drip groove?

No, our steps don't feature a drip groove. On bullnose steps, the rounded front edge helps water run off naturally. On rustic dressed steps, the hand-cut face and natural texture of the stone handle drainage in a similar way.

Can the steps be cut to a bespoke size?

No, we only supply steps in standard widths. If you need a specific custom dimension, we'd recommend sourcing from a local stone mason.

Do you supply matching risers?

No, we don't supply matching risers. Most customers use brick, block, or their existing walling material to build up the risers beneath each tread.
